Boost for Climate Action work in Rother

Work to tackle the issue of climate change has been given a boost in Rother.

The District Council has been awarded the status of a Bronze Level Carbon Literate Organisation after almost 60 members of staff completed special carbon literacy training.

The training is part of the Council’s commitment to help tackle climate change, reduce its own carbon emissions, and work towards a zero-carbon future.

Using resources developed by the Carbon Literacy Project, the training provides staff with an awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities – and unlocks the ability and motivation to reduce emissions on an individual, community and organisational basis.

Cllr Kathryn Field, Lead member for Climate Change and Chair of the Council’s Climate Change Steering Group, said: “We made a commitment in our Climate Action Plan to provide carbon literacy training to all staff, aiming to ultimately reach the gold standard.

“We want to tackle climate change in Rother and that includes getting our own house in order. This training is a welcome step in that direction and I am delighted with our new carbon literate status.”

Dave Coleman, Co-Founder and Managing Director of the Carbon Literacy Project, said: “By becoming a Bronze accredited Carbon Literate Organisation, Rother District Council has demonstrated its commitment to genuine low carbon action, environmental and economic impact, and the building of a low-carbon future for us all.”
