Rother District Council does provide a comprehensive grounds maintenance service on land within its ownership. This land consists mainly of parks, open spaces, sports fields and general amenity sites. The maintenance carried out includes grass cutting. The height of cut varies depending on factors such as how the open space is used and the visual and environmental impact.

Maintenance of grass areas in the rural areas is generally the responsibility of the local Town or Parish Councils, details of which can be found Town/Parish Council websites.

Reduced mowing frequency

In recent years, we have reduced the frequency of mowing within certain areas of some of our sites to allow naturally occurring wildflowers and grasses to flower and go to seed. This provides habitat and feeding opportunities for various insects, including pollinators such as bees enabling us to contribute to increasing biodiversity locally.
