Football with the champions

Football-mad youngsters in Rother have been honing their skills with the help of the Premier League champions.

Sessions were run by coaches from the Chelsea Foundation - which delivers coaching in the community on behalf of the West London club.

Open to children aged six to 14, the classes were held throughout August at Bexhill Downs and Sidley Recreation Ground.

Football coaching was one of a number of activities promoted by Active Rother - the Rother District Council-led partnership which encourages people to improve their health by getting active.

Adrian Gaylon, sports development officer the council, said: "The coaching sessions were popular with children and their parents - despite the odd week affected by rain.

"Parents were pleased with the fact the sessions were delivered in the local community at an affordable price, and said their children really enjoyed them.

"As well as improving their football skills, the classes played a big role in encouraging children to get out and get active during the summer holidays."

Youngsters were joined at one of the sessions by Cllr Jimmy Carroll, Rother District Council member for Bexhill Sidley
