Question 22/16

Q. Please could you tell me if it possible to buy land from Rother council to build a homes for local residents. There is brownfield sites located all over Bexhill which are not used at all. So why not let those who cannot afford to buy in this over inflated housing market build their own homes. People who have grown up here and went to schools around here have no option but to rent and see their dream of owning their own home moving further away by each passing year. So why not help us out and not let the land fall into the hands of developers and land bankers who's only interest is profits. (31/08/2016)

A. The Council does, in fact, have very few sites that would be suitable for development in the way that you suggest.  However, Rother does have a self-build register in place http://www.rother.gov.uk/selfbuildregister to establish this need.  Making Council land available may be an option; however it is more likely that Rother would work with developers to make serviced plots available.
