Questions from 2016

In this section, you will find questions to the Leader from 2016.

  • Question 28/16

    Q. I was wondering why RDC needed to squander over £1200 giving free parking on Gibbet Marsh to tourists in support of the Christmas festivities in Rye? Every year my permit goes up by 20% to park my vehicle on this car park. What can't the same generosity be shown to local taxpayers? We're told every year that charges needed to be raised above inflation to maintain car parks. Why couldn't parking charges be as normal and the council earn badly needed cash? (12/12/2016)

  • Question 24/16

    Q. After the death of the 14-year-old boy in Calais yesterday, there have been many calls for the national Government to do more immediately to take in refugee children, as agreed under the Dubs Amendment. However, as I understand it, part of the responsibility also lies with local councils, as it is down to councils to say how many refugee children they are willing to accept. I would like to ask whether you have committed to welcoming child refugees, and if so how many. I have just returned from 8 weeks volunteering with refugees in Chios, where I met many children desperate to continue their lives. Even if we cannot help the children stuck in Chios, I would be proud of Rother if you were able to help those now in Calais or elsewhere in Europe. (21/09/2016)

  • Question 23/16

    Q. I notice that there have been several issues raised about the poor performance of the contractors Kier, over the past 2 years, who are responsible for delivering the East Sussex Joint Waste Partnership 10-year contract awarded in 2012.

  • Question 22/16

    Q. Please could you tell me if it possible to buy land from Rother council to build a homes for local residents. There is brownfield sites located all over Bexhill which are not used at all. So why not let those who cannot afford to buy in this over inflated housing market build their own homes. People who have grown up here and went to schools around here have no option but to rent and see their dream of owning their own home moving further away by each passing year. So why not help us out and not let the land fall into the hands of developers and land bankers who's only interest is profits. (31/08/2016)

    Q. Can you tell me why the council does not have qualified beach lifeguards on our beaches? The term 'Beach Patrol' is misleading to the public and gives the impression Rother employs lifeguards. Surely in light of recent events it is time to accept the council has a duty of care to water users. Would it not be reasonable for people who spend up to £10 to park (at Camber) to expect qualified lifeguards on 'Beach patrol'. (24/07/2016)

  • Question 18/16

    Q. Please can you tell me why for the past 4 collections mine and others in my area have not had the garden bins collected on the dedicated day. If they can't collect on the day why have we not been notified? I feel that it needs sorting out so we can organise our bins so they are not just left out on the pavement, which in its self can be a hazard to pedestrians in the dark. As stated the garden bins have not been collected on the right day for the past 4 collections. (05/07/2016)

Access via the phone is virtually impossible , not at all customer friendly. whoever set up the system should take a look at bbc1 in the mornings at Wigan Council who take half a million calls from local people for various services and there is a need to remember who pays the local Tax Bills and who the Council staff work for. Your reply does not answer my question, I wanted to know how the license fee of £396 was achieved, which I think is a reasonable question when the license fee has more than doubled in recent years. This year the license fee has again risen by 10% which when taking into account that wages and the CPI are so low is in the opinion of the beach hut owners excessive. Could you please advise why such a increase in the license was necessary. (15/02/2016)

    Q. The charge for sighting a beach hut on the beach has risen again this year by 10% to £396, compared with CPI of 0.1% is there any real justification for such an increase. I understand the charge is made up of VAT, non domestic rates and administration costs, could you please break down these costs individually, plus any other charges that I am not aware of so as I am able to understand how the figure of £396 is reached. Thank you. (08/02/2016)
